The five miqat
Where each miqat is, who it serves, and when to enter ihram — by road and by air.
- Dhul Hulayfah (Abyar Ali) ذو الحليفة 420 km from Makkah · Madinah, and anyone travelling to Makkah from Madinah.
- Al-Juhfah (Rabigh) الجحفة 187 km from Makkah · Egypt, the Levant, Turkey, North Africa, Europe and the Americas.
- Qarn al-Manazil (As-Sayl al-Kabir) قرن المنازل 94 km from Makkah · Najd and the east: Riyadh, the Eastern Province and most of the Gulf.
- Yalamlam (As-Sa'diyah) يلملم 100 km from Makkah · Yemen and the south, including most flights from South and South-East Asia.
- Dhat Irq ذات عرق 92 km from Makkah · Iraq, Iran and the north-east.
Jeddah is inside the miqat boundary. Most scholars say air travellers must enter ihram before landing; some allow entering it in Jeddah when that is hard. Rifqa follows the majority view. Sahih al-Bukhari 1524, 1531; Sahih Muslim 1181
